Simple Living

Since Scott's been gone, I've been experimenting with living simply--or at least more simply than I do.

Abigail and I have been washing our hair with baking soda (you use a vinegar rinse too). After a month, I can say my hair feels healthier and actually can go a second day (if I don't go to the gym) without a washing. I know this sounds gross to us, but lots of stylists suggest washing once a week and women didn't always wash their hair everyday. (great blog: http://babyslime.livejournal.com/174054.html). (You can also brush your teeth with baking soda in a pinch. And a box of baking soda costs a whopping 50 cents.

Currently, I'm also experimenting with making body wash--letting bar soap (which costs about a buck fifty depending on what you use--I got the new Dove burst kind--two bars for $2.97) disintegrate in water (I suggest heating it and also cutting up the soap--yay for sixth grade science). I think I used too much water (I have 8 bottles of various sizes filled with the soap), but I'm interested in seeing how this works out.

And tomorrow, Melissa, Jess, and I are going to pick strawberries. We are talking about making jam out of some, and I'm planning on freezing some. Scott always gets frozen strawberries for his yogurt (they are cheaper than fresh ones in the winter and last longer). I figure I can keep them for his return, make pies, etc. Next month, I hope to go pick blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries.

We'll see how it goes. :)
